Favorite Books

The types of books I like to read include a wide range of fiction and non-fiction. Among my favorite contemporary authors are Michael Crichton, John Sanford, Dean Koontz, John Grisham, Stephen King, and Nelson DeMille. From time to time I like to read science fiction works by such writers as Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Ray Bradbury and classics by Ernest Hemingway, Joseph Conrad, and James Joyce, to mention a few.

If there is one common feature in all of the novels and short stories I've enjoyed it's the fascinating cast of characters. Whether they're tragic figures, such as Lenny in Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, or an endearing heroine like Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone, it is the people of the book who keep me turning the pages.

When I read a book I want it not only to entertain me but to give me new insights into human nature. My non-fiction tastes range from history and politics to economics, psychology, and religion. I recently completed The Tipping Point and Blink, both by Malcolm Gladwell, which I would highly recommend.
