Denise F. Kalette (1946-2021)

I knew Denise Kalette only a short time. She joined our Atlanta authors group a few months ago and was working on a memoir about her service as an AP correspondent in 1960s Hungary. We came to know her as a brilliant yet warm person with a passion for writing.

Her stint behind the Iron Curtain was but a small part of a journalistic career that spanned decades. She began as a Sunday features reporter with a local newspaper in her hometown of Syracuse, NY, and went on to become a national writer for USA Today. Her credits include an interview with Astronaut Sally Ride and an undercover piece on corruption in a county jail

Our group recently learned of Denise’s passing on April 16 at age 74. We will miss her keen insights and bright smile.
